When the wind of revolutions strike the coutry, it is the country itself which takes all the disadvantages. There are not many advantages yet, and not for a while even after the war. The Cambodia experiences series of violence and attacks; and the narrator's family is not an exception. The father is killed, and she sees others killed also. The foreign forces are involved in this conflict, although nobody, as an individual, can defend anybody in the country. The technology is advanced and the average people who aren't in the conflict never have used those kinds of weapons. All who fight against or don't obey are killed or tortured.
There are hunger and chaos along with killing, some women raped and gets beaten in the middle of all the chaotic situation.
Culturally, there are many similarity between all the European conflicts and Cambodian conflict, addtionally, the foreign forces are involved in this movement. Whenever the other country gets involved in the other country's issues, there had been always greater conlfict that one should've had. It is interesting to compare the history of these continents.
